Turned from windfall oak sourced from the historic Clovelly Estate on the North Devon coast, this bowl carries the quiet character of the landscape it came from. The timber, once part of a fallen estate tree, has been carefully seasoned and then shaped on the lathe to reveal the grain that lay hidden within it for decades.

Working with windfall timber means allowing the wood to guide the process. As the bowl takes shape, the natural grain, colour and subtle movement of the oak begin to appear, giving each piece its own distinct character. No two bowls from the same tree will ever be identical.

The finished form measures 10.5 inches in diameter and 3.75 inches tall, a proportion long favoured by woodturners for its balance and quiet presence on a table. Generous enough to hold fruit, yet refined enough to stand comfortably as a centrepiece.

As a professional woodturner, my work focuses on revealing the natural beauty of the timber rather than overpowering it. The curves are cut by hand on the lathe, allowing the form to develop slowly and naturally from the wood itself.

Finished in food safe oil to enhance the warmth and depth of the oak, this bowl is made to be used daily — and to age gracefully over time.
